David Robert Filo (born April 20, 1966) is an American businessman. He is famous for co-founding Yahoo! with his friend Jerry Yang. David also created a special computer program. This program, called the Filo Server Program, helped early Yahoo! websites work.
Early Life and Education
David Filo was born in Wisconsin, U.S. He grew up in Moss Bluff, Louisiana. He loved learning about computers.
He studied computer engineering at Tulane University. He earned a bachelor's degree there. Later, he went to Stanford University. In 1990, he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering.
Starting Yahoo!
In February 1994, David Filo and Jerry Yang created an Internet website. They were classmates at Stanford. Their first website was called "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web." It was a simple list of other websites.
Soon, they renamed their website "Yahoo!" It quickly became very popular. David and Jerry saw how big it could become. So, they officially started the company Yahoo! Inc..
Yahoo! was one of the first big internet companies. It helped people find websites. It also offered many online services. Yahoo! was a pioneer in the early days of the internet in the 1990s. Today, it is still a well-known internet brand.
David Filo's Family Life
David Filo is married to Angela Buenning. She is a photographer and a teacher. They have one child together. The family lives in Palo Alto, California.
David Filo has also given money to his old universities. In 2005, he gave $30 million to Tulane University. This money helped their School of Engineering. He and his wife have also supported Stanford and Berkeley universities.
