David Robert Filo was born on April 20, 1966. He is an American businessman who helped start the famous internet company, Yahoo!. He created it with his friend, Jerry Yang. David also made a special computer program called the Filo Server Program. This program helped show different web pages to people visiting Yahoo! in its early days.

Early Life and School

David Filo was born in Wisconsin. He grew up in Moss Bluff, Louisiana. He studied computer engineering at Tulane University. Later, in 1990, he earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University.

Starting Yahoo!

In February 1994, David Filo and Jerry Yang created a website. They called it "Jerry and David's Guide to the World Wide Web." It was like a big list of other websites. They later changed the name to "Yahoo!" which means "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle."

Yahoo! quickly became very popular. David and Jerry saw that their website had a lot of business potential. So, they officially started the company Yahoo! Inc..

Yahoo! began as a "web portal." This means it was a main starting point for many internet activities. It offered many different products and services. Yahoo was one of the first big internet companies in the 1990s. Today, it is still a well-known internet brand. It is one of the most visited websites online.

Personal Life and Giving Back

David Filo is married to Angela Buenning. She is a photographer and a teacher. They have one child and live in Palo Alto, California.

David Filo has given a lot of money to schools. In 2005, he gave $30 million to Tulane University. This money helped their School of Engineering. He and his wife have also given money to Stanford University and Berkeley. They especially support programs in sustainability, education, and journalism.

As of September 2019, David Filo's wealth was estimated to be about $4.3 billion. This made him one of the richest people in the world.
