Sir David Hamilton (born 1663 – died August 1721) was a Scottish doctor who served as a physician to Queen Anne. During his time as the Queen's doctor, he also kept a diary.

Life and Career

Sir David Hamilton was born in Scotland. He began his medical studies at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands in 1683. He then earned his medical degree (MD) from the university of Reims in France in 1686.

After his studies, he moved to London. He became a licensed doctor with the London College of Physicians in 1688 and later became a full member in 1703.

In 1708, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very respected group for scientists. Sir David Hamilton became a leading expert in midwifery, which is the practice of helping women during childbirth.

He was the personal physician to Queen Anne, who honored him by making him a knight. He also served as a doctor to Caroline, Princess of Wales. Sir David Hamilton became very wealthy during his career, but he later lost his money in a big financial event. He passed away on August 28, 1721.

His Writings

Sir David Hamilton also wrote several books during his life. One of his important works was a medical book called Tractatus Duplex: prior de Praxeos Regulis, alter de Febre Miliari, which was published in 1710. This book discussed rules for medical practice and a type of fever.
