The David Hunt Three-Decker is a special old building in Worcester, Massachusetts. It's called a "three-decker" because it has three apartments, one on top of the other. This building was built around 1900. It's a great example of a Queen Anne Victorian style home, which was popular back then. Because it's so well-preserved, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. This means it's an important part of history!

What is the David Hunt Three-Decker?

The David Hunt Three-Decker is found in the Vernon Hill area of Worcester. It sits on the east side of Louise Street. This building has three floors and is made of wood.

How Does It Look?

The roof of the building is shaped like a hip roof. The outside walls are covered with wooden clapboards. You can also see pretty, rounded shingles that look like fish scales. The roof has wide edges with fancy Italianate brackets underneath.

The front of the building is very interesting. On the left side, there are porches stacked one above the other. On the right side, there's a rounded window area. Different types of decorative shingles separate each floor. The porches have a shingled "skirt" at the bottom. They also have a short fence-like railing in the middle. Square columns with simple tops hold up the porches.

On the right side of the building, there's a part that sticks out. This section goes all the way to the back. At the very end of this part, you'll find the back entrance. A small roof, called a portico, covers this entrance. It is held up by turned posts, which are posts shaped on a special machine.

History of the Building

This beautiful Queen Anne Victorian building was built around 1900. This was an early time for building homes in the Vernon Hill neighborhood. The area where the house stands is on the southern side of the hill.

Back then, many people living here were Irish immigrants. They often worked in the city's wire factories. David Hunt was the first owner of this three-decker. He also worked in a wire factory. This shows how the building was part of the community's growth.
