David Shalleck is a talented chef, TV show producer, and author. He has cooked in many places around the world. These include New York, San Francisco, London, and Italy. Becoming a Chef & Producer

David Shalleck first studied Set and Lighting Design at Syracuse University. He started his career in New York City. He worked for a company that designed lights for TV and stage shows. At the same time, he also worked in a restaurant called An American Place. This was in the 1980s, when American food was becoming very popular.

Authoring a Travel Memoir

David Shalleck is also a successful author. His book, Mediterranean Summer, is a travel memoir about food. The New York Times chose it as a top summer read in 2007. A critic from the New York Times called it "a book-sized vacation."

The book tells the story of David's time as a chef on a sailing yacht. He traveled from Saint-Tropez in France to Positano on Italy's Amalfi Coast. The book includes many recipes. It also has wine pairing tips from Sergio Esposito. Mediterranean Summer has won awards and is available in many languages.

Awards & Special Honors

In 2008, Mediterranean Summer won the Cordon d'Or Culinary Academy Award. It won in the Literature/Memoir category. The book also received the USA Book News Awards in 2007. It was honored as the best Travel Essay.

What David Shalleck Does Today

Today, David Shalleck still runs his company, VOLOCHEF. He is also part of several professional and charity groups. He works as a special cooking expert for Windstar Cruises. He has created Mediterranean-inspired menus for their main restaurant.
