Sir David Tiva Kapu is an important leader in the Solomon Islands. He is an Anglican priest and has been the Governor-General of Solomon Islands since July 2024. As Governor-General, he represents King Charles III in the Solomon Islands. He holds a special honor called the GCMG.
His Education
Sir David Kapu studied at the Pacific Theological College. He earned a special degree there. For his studies, he wrote a big paper. This paper looked at how the church and the government worked together in the Nggela Islands of the Solomon Islands. He studied this relationship from 1932 to 2007.
His Career
Reverend Kapu worked as the academic dean of studies. This means he helped lead the teaching at the Bishop Patteson Theological College in Kohimarama, Solomon Islands.
In June 2024, he was chosen as the only person to be the next Governor-General of Solomon Islands. The Governor-General is the King's representative in the country. He was officially nominated for this role on June 17, 2024.
King Charles III issued a special document on June 27, 2024. This document appointed Sir David Kapu as Governor-General. His term officially began on July 7, 2024. This happened after the previous Governor-General, Sir David Vunagi, finished his time in office.
On February 25, 2025, Sir David Kapu received a very high honor. King Charles III made him a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St Michael and St George (GCMG). This special ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace.
