How Dawson Park Was Improved
In November 2013, Dawson Park closed for almost a year. This was for a big upgrade costing $2.6 million. City leaders wanted to make sure the park stayed a special place for everyone. They asked people in the community for their ideas. This helped them create a park that everyone would love.
What's New at the Park?
The upgraded park now has many cool features. You can find a brand new playground there. There is also an interactive water feature, which is great for hot days. The park is easier to get around now, with better paths and lighting. New barbecue and picnic areas are perfect for family gatherings.
Art and Culture at Dawson Park
Dawson Park also features unique art. You can see special double-sided medallions. These were designed by an artist named Isaka Shamsud-Din. One side of the medallions shows traditional African patterns. The other side shows pictures of the neighborhood. This art helps tell the story of the community.
