When Was DeKalb Started?
DeKalb was officially planned and marked out on a map, a process called "platting," in the year 1835. This means people decided where streets and building lots would go.
DeKalb's Early Post Office
Before it was even platted, a post office was opened in DeKalb in 1833. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It served the community for many years until it closed down in 1882.
