DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course, often called "DeLa", is a super famous 29-hole disc golf course. It's located in the beautiful hills above Santa Cruz, California. People from all over the world come to play here. DeLa is known for its long holes and amazing views.

Discovering DeLaveaga Disc Golf Course

DeLa is one of the oldest and most respected disc golf courses. It was designed by Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Hall of Famer Tom Schot. He also started the World Disc Games. The course was built in the mid-1980s. It was one of the first courses made just for disc golf.

What is Disc Golf?

Disc golf is a sport similar to regular golf. Instead of hitting a ball with clubs, players throw a special disc. The goal is to get the disc into a metal basket, called a "hole" or "target," in the fewest throws possible. It's played on a course with different "holes."

The Famous "Top of the World" Hole

One of the most famous parts of DeLaveaga is its 27th hole. It's known as "Top of the World." This hole is super exciting! The spot where you throw your disc is nearly 600 feet (about 183 meters) away from the basket. It's also 100 feet (about 30 meters) higher than the basket. Imagine throwing a disc from way up high and watching it fly down!

In 2019, DeLaveaga was ranked as the 10th best disc golf course in the world. This was on a list made by Release Point.

History and Big Events

DeLa has hosted many important disc golf events. In 2011, the PDGA World Championships were held in California. One round of this big tournament was played right here at DeLaveaga. A local player named Nate Doss won the 2011 World Championships.

Every May, many disc golf players visit Santa Cruz. They come for the Masters Cup. This is one of the oldest and most important tournaments in disc golf. It's part of the PDGA's national tour.
