The DeVault-Massengill House is a very old building and farm in Piney Flats, Tennessee. It is also known as Mary Lou Farms. The main house is a big mansion built in 1842. It has a special style called Greek revival. A man named Isaac DeVault built it.
There is also an even older building on the property. It is a log cabin built around 1769. Henry Massengill built this first cabin. Both the mansion and the log cabin are still standing today. In 1985, the house and land were added to the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are important historical sites in the United States.
A Look Back: History of the Buildings
The story of this land began in 1769. That's when Henry Massengill came to eastern Tennessee. He built the first log cabin on the property. This cabin has been fixed up and is still there. Henry Massengill also started a large farm on the land. This farm stayed in his family for many years.
Later, in the 1800s, the DeVault family bought the property. They owned it for some time. But in 1937, the Massengill family bought it back again.
Today, the DeVault-Massengill House is located along the Bristol Highway. It is right across from the Rocky Mount Museum.
