About the de la Cruz Collection

The de la Cruz Collection opened its doors in 2009. It was located in a large building, about 30,000 square feet, which was designed by an architect named John Marquette. Inside, visitors could see many different artworks. The collection featured pieces by famous artists such as Isa Genzken, Christopher Wool, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Mark Bradford, Peter Doig, Dan Colen, and Nate Lowman.

Who Were the Collectors?

Rosa and Carlos de la Cruz were very well-known in the art world. For many years, starting in 1998, a magazine called ArtNews included them in their list of the "Top 200 Collectors" around the world. This showed how important their collection was and how much they loved art.

Why Did It Close?

The de la Cruz Collection museum closed permanently in 2024. This happened after Rosa de la Cruz passed away in February 2024. A few months later, in May 2024, some of the most important artworks from the collection were sold. A famous auction house called Christie's sold 26 pieces for a total of about US$34.4 million.
