The Dean Forest Act 1861 is a special law passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It's like a set of rules for managing the Forest of Dean in England. This law also covers the mines and quarries found in the forest and a nearby area called the Hundred of Saint Briavels.

This Act was created to help manage the forest and its valuable resources. Even though it's an old law, parts of it were still in use in Great Britain at the end of 2010.

Over time, some parts of this law have been changed or removed. For example, some sections were officially cancelled by another law called the Statute Law (Repeals) Act 1969. This happened because those parts were no longer needed or were outdated. The Forestry Commission, which looks after forests, agreed to these changes.

What is Section 7 About?

Section 7 of the Dean Forest Act 1861 talks about how payments for mining rights work. These payments are called "rents and royalties."

This section was updated by the Dean Forest (Mines) Act 1904. Now, when new mining rights are given out, the time period for these payments can be up to 63 years. Before, it was only 21 years. This change helps make sure the rules are fair for miners.

What Happened to Section 25?

Section 25 of the Dean Forest Act 1861 was completely removed. It was cancelled by a newer law called the Wild Creatures and Forest Laws Act 1971. This means Section 25 is no longer part of the law.

What About Section 26?

Section 26 of this Act has been changed. It was updated by the Dean Forest and New Forest Acts (Amendment) Regulations 1979. This shows that laws can be updated over time to fit new situations.
