Early Life of Dean and Dan Caten
Dean and Dan Caten were born in 1964 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. They grew up in a place called Willowdale. They have seven older brothers and sisters. Their father came from Casalvieri, a small town in Italy.
In 1983, the twins moved to New York. They wanted to study fashion at Parsons School of Design. However, they only stayed for one semester before going back to Toronto.
In 1986, they found someone to help them financially. They then launched their first clothing line for women, called DEanDAN. By 1988, they became creative directors for a company called Ports International. At the same time, they also designed for a more casual brand, Tabi International.
In 1991, the brothers moved to Milan, Italy. There, they worked as designers for famous fashion houses like Gianni Versace. They also worked for the denim brand Diesel. Diesel later helped them start their own brand, Dsquared².

Dsquared² and Celebrities
In 2000–2001, the famous singer Madonna asked the brothers to design over 150 outfits. These outfits were for her "Drowned World Tour 2001" and her music video "Don't Tell Me".
In 2005, a Dsquared² fashion show ended with singer Christina Aguilera on stage. In September 2007, Rihanna made a grand entrance at their Milan fashion show. She arrived on stage in an American muscle car.
In January 2010, the Dsquared² Autumn/Winter menswear show in Milan featured Bill Kaulitz. He is the lead singer of the band Tokio Hotel. He came down from the ceiling in a caged elevator, like in a famous movie. Bill Kaulitz also opened and closed that fashion show.
Many other celebrities have worn Dsquared² designs. These include Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Ricky Martin, Nicolas Cage, and Lenny Kravitz. The singer Fergie wore their designs in her music video "Clumsy". The band The Black Eyed Peas also featured their clothes in the "I Gotta Feeling" music video.
Dsquared² Stores Around the World
In June 2007, the very first Dsquared² main store opened in Milan. Milan is known as a major fashion city. Since then, Dsquared² has opened stores in many other cities. These include St. Moritz, Athens, Mykonos, Capri, Istanbul, Kyiv, Cannes, Singapore, Paris, Nicosia, and Hong Kong.
In March 2015, Dsquared² opened its first main store in London. This was part of a big plan to redesign their stores. More stores have opened in places like Miami, Doha, Los Angeles, New York, Baku, Rome, Prague, and Madrid.
What Dsquared² Makes
The Caten brothers create exciting fashion shows. These shows display their clothing for men and women. They also showcase their footwear, fragrances (perfumes), and cosmetics (makeup). The brand's slogan is: "Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy." This shows where they are from and where they work.
