Decker's Chapel is a very old and special little church located in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, a town in Elk County, Pennsylvania. It sits right at the corner of Earth Road and PA 255. This chapel is part of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, which is a religious area.
About Decker's Chapel
Decker's Chapel was built a long time ago, in 1856. It's a small, one-story building made of wood. The outside is covered with overlapping wooden boards called "clapboard."
What Makes It Special?
This chapel is quite tiny! It measures only 12 feet wide by 18 feet long. Inside, it has just one room, and the walls are smooth with plaster.
The chapel also has a tall, narrow tower called a steeple. At the top of the steeple, there's an open area called a belfry, where bells would usually hang. The very top of the steeple has a pointed, pyramid-shaped roof with a cross on it.
Right next to the chapel, you'll find a special stone marker. This marker is made of granite and was placed there in 1928. It honors a religious leader named Monsignor Michael Joseph Decker.
A Historic Landmark
Because of its age and unique features, Decker's Chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This means it's recognized as an important historical site in the United States.
