About Decker's Chapel
Decker's Chapel was built a long time ago, in 1856. It is a small, one-story building made of wood. The outside walls are covered with overlapping wooden boards called clapboard.
Building Details
The chapel measures about 12 feet wide and 18 feet long. That's roughly the size of a small classroom! Inside, it has just one room with smooth, plastered walls. On top of the chapel, there is a rectangular steeple. This steeple has an open section called a belfry, where a bell would usually hang. A pointed roof, shaped like a pyramid and topped with a cross, covers the belfry.
Honoring a Special Person
Also on the property, you can find a special stone marker made of granite. This marker was put there in 1928. It honors Monsignor Michael Joseph Decker, who was an important person connected to the chapel.
A Recognized Landmark
Because of its history and unique style, Decker's Chapel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. This means it is officially recognized as an important historical site in the United States.
