The Dendropsophus arndti is a type of "clown tree frog" that was officially named in 2017. These small frogs live in the Amazon basin area of Bolivia. Its special name, arndti, was chosen to honor Professor Rudolf G. Arndt. He helped fund important research and efforts to protect nature.

Where Does the Dendropsophus arndti Live?

This frog species is found only in Bolivia. It lives in the Amazon basin region, specifically in the Beni and Santa Cruz areas.

What Does the Dendropsophus arndti Look Like?

Adult male frogs are about 28 to 32 millimeters (1.1 to 1.3 inches) long. The only female frog studied was about 33 millimeters (1.3 inches) long. Their heads are wider than they are long.

Face and Body Features

The frog's snout is short and rounded when you look from above. It looks flat from the side. They have large eyes that stick out a bit. The eardrum, called the tympanum, is hidden under the skin.

Their fingers and toes have webs between them, but not all the way. They also have large, round pads on their fingers and smaller ones on their toes. Their skin is smooth.

Colors and Patterns

The colors of these frogs can be different. Most of them have clear, light-colored bands along their backs and sides. Some frogs have a pattern that looks like a net on their backs. The main color of their skin is dark brown to brown. The bands, spots, or net-like patterns are white or bright yellow.

Where Do They Live and Are They Safe?

Dendropsophus arndti frogs have been found in different areas of Bolivia. These include the Beni savanna, Chiquitano dry forests, and Bolivian Yungas. They live at elevations from about 148 to 529 meters (486 to 1,736 feet) above sea level.

Their Home Environment

Scientists have found these frogs sitting on plants up to 1.4 meters (4.6 feet) above the ground or water. They often live near water, like riverbanks, temporary swampy areas, or man-made ponds. They also live along the edges of forests.

Conservation Status

This frog species was only recently discovered. Because of this, it is not yet on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. This list helps track animals that might be in danger. However, the scientists who described the frog think it should be considered of "least concern". This means they believe the frog is not currently at risk. This is because it lives in a fairly large area, and its habitat is not too damaged.
