Devil sticks facts for kids
The devil stick (also called flower sticks or juggling sticks) is a fun toy used for juggling and balancing. It involves moving one main stick, called the baton, between two smaller sticks held in your hands. You lift, hit, or stroke the baton with your handsticks to keep it spinning and balanced in the air.
Playing with devil sticks is a type of circus art. It's sometimes known as devil-sticking, twirling, or stick juggling.

Types of Devil Sticks
Devil sticks come in many different sizes and are made from various materials. The main stick, or baton, usually has one of two designs:
- Tapered batons: These sticks are thinner in the middle and get wider towards the ends.
- Straight batons: These sticks have the same width all the way along, but they have weights added to their ends.
Most devil sticks are made from wood, plastic, aluminum, or strong materials like fiberglass or carbon fiber. They are often covered with a rubbery material. This covering helps the baton grip the handsticks better and protects it when it falls. Sometimes, other coverings like cloth or leather are used.
Flower Sticks
Flower sticks have special flower-shaped ends. These ends help to slow down the movement of the baton, which can make it easier to learn new tricks. The heavier and floppier ends give you more control because they create a bigger "sweet spot" for balancing.
Fire Devil Sticks
Fire devil sticks, also called firesticks, usually have a metal core. They have special wicks on their ends that can be soaked in fuel and lit on fire. This creates an amazing visual effect, especially in the dark! You can find both flower and non-flower versions of firesticks.
Light-Up Devil Sticks
Some devil sticks can glow in the dark! They use small battery-powered lights, LEDs, or materials that glow after being exposed to light. These are great for creating cool visual effects when it's dark.
