Dick's Classic Garage was a cool museum in San Marcos, Texas, all about cars! It was started in 2009 by a Texas businessman named Dick Burdick. He loved collecting cars. Dick's Classic Garage showed off amazing American cars and car-related items from the 1930s to the 1950s.

One of the most special cars there was a 1948 Tucker Sedan. This particular car (chassis number 1050) had barely been driven, showing only 0.4 miles on its odometer! The museum also had a special area where old cars could be fixed up and made to look new again. Sadly, Dick's Classic Garage closed its doors to the public on December 31, 2018.

What Kind of Cars Were in the Collection?

The Central Texas Museum of Automotive History had a huge collection of cars. It featured both American and European cars from the 20th century. The museum especially focused on cars made before 1929. Imagine seeing really old cars like Stanley Steamers, Duesenbergs, and Jaguars! The museum had about 125 cars that were fully restored. This means they were fixed up to look just like new. There was also a large library filled with books and information about cars.

Why Did the Museum Close?

In 2012, the Central Texas Museum of Automotive History announced it would close. The main reason was to help get money for the newer Dick's Classic Garage. About 90 of the cars from the collection were sold at an auction. The rest of the cars were moved to Dick's Classic Garage. The idea was that selling some cars and moving others would help the new museum stay open for a very long time.
