Die Lollipops is a popular children's band from Germany. They started making music in the summer of 2000. Their songs are released by Edelkids, which is a part of the German company Edel Music. The band's main goal is to create fun music for German-speaking kids.

What Kind of Music Do Die Lollipops Make?

Die Lollipops sing different kinds of songs. Their music can be put into three main groups:

  • Traditional children's songs: These are classic songs that kids already know. They can be German songs or popular songs from other countries.
  • Cover songs: Sometimes, Die Lollipops take a popular song, often from English-speaking countries, and use its tune. Then, they write completely new German words for it. This makes the song sound familiar but with a new story.
  • Original songs: Most of their songs are brand new! These are created by the band and their team. Many of their newer albums feature these original tunes.

Famous Tunes with New Words

Here are some examples of well-known songs that Die Lollipops have used. They kept the original melody but wrote their own German lyrics:

Lollipops Song Original Song

Yo, wir gehen zum Rodeo Old McDonald Had a Farm
Ich hab ne Tante in Marokko She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain

The Story of Die Lollipops

The name "Die Lollipops" comes from German and English. "Die" means "the" (for many things) in German. "Lollipops" is an English word that Germans also use now.

The band released their first album, also called Die Lollipops, in July 2000. Since then, they have released new CDs, videos, and audio books very often. They usually put out about two new releases every year. By 2005, their record company had sold over 1.5 million of their CDs and videos!

Gold and Platinum Records

Many of their albums have been very successful. Eight of their releases have gone "gold," and one has gone "platinum." These are special awards for selling many copies. In Germany, a "gold" award means 100,000 copies were sold. A "platinum" award means 200,000 copies were sold.

The Singers of Die Lollipops

For most of its history, Die Lollipops has had two singers at a time. These singers are usually girls between 11 and 16 years old. Since the band has been around for many years, they need to find new singers every few years as the older ones grow up.

The singers who started recording in late 2007 were Susi and Fiona. Susi was 12 and Fiona was 11 years old at the time. They released an album called Einfach tierisch in March 2008. The band's producer, Peter Hoffmann, has been with them since the very beginning.

Songwriting and Reach

Sometimes, songwriters from other bands that work with Edel Music also write songs for Die Lollipops. For example, a singer named Klaus Büchner once wrote a party song for his own band. He then rewrote it as a fun children's song for Die Lollipops. The song's title and rhythm stayed similar.

Because their songs are mostly in German, Die Lollipops are not very well known outside of German-speaking countries. However, you can find and download their music on websites like Amazon.com.
