His painting Holy Family was made for San Benito. You can now see this artwork at the Museum of Valladolid. But many people thought his best work was an altar-piece. This large painting showed the Annunciation of the Virgin. He painted it for a special hospital he helped create in Valladolid.

A Generous Artist

Diego Valentín Díaz was not only a great artist but also a very generous person. He founded a hospital in Valladolid for orphan girls. This shows he cared deeply about helping others.

He painted the Annunciation of the Virgin specifically for this hospital. The painting was admired for its beautiful architecture and perspective. The statues shown in the artwork were also very well done.

Díaz passed away in Valladolid in 1660. He had earned a lot of money during his life. He left most of his wealth to support the hospital he founded. He was buried at the hospital site. Portraits of him and his wife are still kept there. People described him as a "grey-haired sharp old man" and his wife as a "dark-eyed dame."
