Dillon, Texas facts for kids
Dillon is a place in Texas that used to be a small town. Today, it's known as a "ghost town." This means that almost everyone has left, and it's no longer a busy community. Dillon is located in Hopkins County, Texas. It's about 30 miles east of Miller Grove and close to Saltillo.
What Happened to Dillon?
Dillon was named after a man named E. F. Dillon. He opened a post office in his store in 1901. This post office helped the small community connect with the outside world. However, the post office closed just five years later, in 1906. After the post office shut down, the town slowly faded away. By the mid-1930s, Dillon had disappeared from highway maps. This shows that the town was no longer a recognized place.
Dillon in Pop Culture
The name "Dillon" might sound familiar to fans of a popular TV show. The fictional town in the TV series Friday Night Lights shares the same name. This show is about high school football in Texas. Even though the TV show's town is called Dillon, the series was actually filmed in and around Austin, not near the real ghost town of Dillon.
