Dilys Cadwaladr (born March 19, 1902, died January 1979) was a talented writer from Wales. She wrote poems and stories in the Welsh language. Her work was so good that it was also translated into English, so more people could read it!
A Special Achievement: Crowned Bard
Dilys Cadwaladr made history! She was the very first woman to win the "Crown" at the National Eisteddfod of Wales. This is a huge honor for poets and writers in Wales. She won this special award in 1953 in a town called Rhyl.
She also wrote many stories. One of her stories, "The Foolish Maid," was translated into English and published in a book called My Heart on My Sleeve. This book was still being printed many years later, showing how popular her writing was!
Life on Bardsey Island
Dilys Cadwaladr lived an interesting life. For several years in the 1940s, she lived on Bardsey Island. This is a small island off the coast of Wales. While there, she worked as a farmer and also as the schoolteacher for the children living on the island.
