Dinah Abrahamson (1954 – December 17, 2013) was an American author and politician. She was born in Omaha, Nebraska. Dinah was a member of the Nebraska State Central Committee. This group helps lead the Republican Party in Nebraska.
She was also known for appearing on the Oprah Winfrey Network. This TV special showed the lives of Hasidic Jews. Dinah Abrahamson and her family were special. They were one of the few African-American families connected to the Chabad Lubavitch movement.

Dinah Abrahamson's Early Life
Dinah Abrahamson was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1954. Her parents were immigrants. This means they came from other countries. Her father was from Panama. Her mother was of Ashkenazi Jewish background from Germany.
Dinah was raised by her mother and grandparents. Her family practiced a secular Jewish lifestyle. This means they were Jewish but did not strictly follow all religious rules. She only went to synagogue for special community events.
Dinah Abrahamson's Religious Journey
In 1993, Dinah Abrahamson and her two children joined the Chabad Lubavitch group. This is a branch of Hasidic Judaism. Dinah grew more religious as she got older. She wanted to understand herself better.
The Abrahamsons were one of the few Hasidic families in Omaha. They were also one of the very few Black Hasidic families there.
Later, her daughter Sarah moved to Brooklyn, New York. She worked at a Hasidic Jewish day school. Soon after, Dinah and her son Yosef moved to New York City too. They wanted to be closer to a larger Jewish community. The family settled in Crown Heights. This neighborhood is known for having both many African-American and Hasidic Jewish people living together.

Dinah Abrahamson was an active member of the Republican Party. She was part of the Nebraska State Central Committee. This committee helps guide the Republican Party in Nebraska.
She also supported Lee Terry. He was a politician from Nebraska. Lee Terry was a family friend of Dinah Abrahamson.
