Diquis facts for kids
The Diquis culture was an ancient group of people who lived in what is now Costa Rica. They were around from about the year 700 AD until 1530 AD. The name "Diquis" means "great waters" or "great river" in the Boruca language, which is spoken by another native group.
The Diquis people were part of a larger group called the Greater Chiriqui culture. This culture spread from southern Costa Rica all the way to western Panama.

What Are the Diquis Famous For?
The Diquis culture is most famous for its amazing stone spheres. These are huge, perfectly round stones, sometimes called Diquis Spheres. There are over three hundred of them found in Costa Rica.
Where Were the Stone Spheres Found?
Most of these mysterious stone spheres were found in the Diquis Delta area. Some were also discovered on a place called Isla del Caño, which is an island.
What Else Was Found at These Sites?
The places where the stone spheres were found were not just random spots. They also had other interesting features. These included artificial mounds, which are like small hills made by people. There were also paved areas and special burial sites.
The exact purpose of these stone spheres is still a mystery today!
