The Donetsk People's Republic is a territory in eastern Ukraine. It is not recognized as an independent country by most of the world. It was declared by a group of people in 2014. This happened during a time of unrest in Ukraine.
Where is the DPR located?
The Donetsk People's Republic is in the Donetsk Oblast region of eastern Ukraine. This area is close to the border with Russia. Another similar region, the Luhansk People’s Republic, is also nearby. Both areas have many people who identify as ethnic Russians.
How the DPR started
In 2014, a conflict known as the War in Donbass began. During this time, a group of people called separatists took control of parts of Donetsk Oblast.
