How to Play the Game
Double Up was a fun game show for kids. It was a bit like a kids' version of The Dating Game. In this show, two siblings worked together. Their goal was to help each other find a date.
Picking a Date
Each sibling had three possible dates to choose from. Each potential date had a funny nickname. For example, there might be "Dude-Loving Dara" or "Jammin' Jason." These dates sat on special seats. These seats were suspended over a large trash can filled with confetti.
Asking Questions
First, the sister would ask two questions to each of the three girls. Then, the brother would do the same with the three boys. The siblings could hear the answers from the potential dates. However, they could not see them during this part.
Audience Votes
After the questions, each potential date had a few seconds. They would explain why they were the best choice. Then, the audience got to vote. Each audience member wrote names on a piece of paper. They put the paper inside a toy ball. Then, they threw the ball onto the stage to cast their vote.
Making the Choice
Next, the brother chose a date for his sister. He explained why he didn't pick the other two. Then, he pulled a lever. This lever "dumped" the unchosen dates into their confetti-filled trash cans. After that, the sister did the same for her brother's dates.
Winning Prizes
After the choices were made, the audience's votes were shown.
- If a sibling's choice matched one of the audience's top picks, they won $100. This money was for their date.
- If both siblings matched the audience's choices, they won a bigger prize. This was called "The Ultimate Night In Town." It could be tickets to a rock concert or a pro wrestling match.
No matter what, a limo service would chaperone both dates. This meant a grown-up would go with them.
