Sir Douglas William Gretton Wass (born April 15, 1923 – died January 4, 2017) was an important British government official. He worked as the top civil servant for the country's money matters, called the Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury, from 1974 to 1983. He also helped lead the entire civil service in 1981.

He received several special honors during his career. In 1971, he was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath. Later, in 1975, he became a Knight Commander, and in 1980, he was given the highest rank, Knight Grand Cross. In 1985, the University of Bath gave him an honorary degree, which is a special award for his achievements.

In 1983, Sir Douglas was invited by the BBC to give the annual Reith Lectures. These are a famous series of talks given by leading figures. His six lectures were titled "Government and the Governed." In these talks, he explored what government is supposed to do and its responsibilities to the people.

Sir Douglas Wass passed away in London on January 4, 2017, at the age of 93.
