Julio Victorio De Rissio (born November 10, 1916 – died December 26, 2013) was a very popular Argentine comedian. He was best known by his stage name, Dr. Tangalanga. He became famous for his funny prank phone calls to people who didn't know they were being recorded.

His Comedy Career

Julio De Rissio was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His parents were immigrants from Italy. When he was young, he worked in a shoe factory.

He started making prank calls in the mid-1960s. He did this to cheer up a friend who was sick in bed. Since 1989, he released over 40 albums of these prank calls. He sold more than 250,000 copies! This made him perhaps the most famous prank call artist in the Spanish-speaking world. He often used unique Argentine slang in his calls.

His Comedy Style

Dr. Tangalanga's prank calls usually started slowly. He would use formal language to ask about a product or service he saw advertised. Then, he would start saying confusing or funny things. This would often make the person on the other end angry or confused. Soon, a funny argument would begin.

A key part of his comedy was making silly comments about the people he called. For example, he might say something strange about their voice or how they talked.

Tangalanga chose his targets randomly or from ideas sent in by his fans. He didn't have a special type of person he called. But he often picked people who seemed to get annoyed easily. He frequently called adult workers, fortune tellers, mechanics, and people who worked at pizzerias or parking garages.

Dr. Tangalanga also used different fake names, like Tarufetti or Varela. In many calls, he would pretend to complain about a bad service his "brother" or "nephew" received. For example, he once said: "My nephew went to get two 'matafuegos' (fire extinguishers) for the car, but it didn't kill the fire or even injure it!" This funny argument became one of his most famous calls.

The Fitness Center Calls

Starting in 1988, Dr. Tangalanga made many calls to a gym manager named Octavio. The first call was on his album "Dr. Tangalanga es mundial." Octavio appeared in several other albums too. There were a total of 12 calls to Octavio. The last one was done live in 2011.
