The History of Drier's Meat Market
How the Butcher Shop Started
The building that is now Drier's Meat Market was not always a butcher shop. It was first built as a place to fix wagons. Around 1875, it became a butcher shop. We don't know the name of the first butcher.
In 1887, a man named Alec Watson came to Three Oaks from Chicago. He took over the shop, which was then called the Union Meat Market.
From Delivery Boy to Owner
Alec Watson hired a 10-year-old boy named Edward T. Drier. Edward worked as a delivery boy for the shop. In 1913, Watson sold the business to Edward Drier.
Edward Drier later passed the shop to his son, Edward Drier Jr. In 1994, Edward Drier Jr. passed the business to his daughter, Carolyn Drier. This shows how the shop has stayed in the same family for many years!
What Drier's Meat Market Looks Like
Drier's Meat Market is a one-story building. It has a pointed roof and a rounded front that makes it look special. The front of the building has pretty wooden decorations. Inside, you can still see the original wooden floors. Many of the things used in the shop are from the 1800s. It's like stepping back in time!
