Drob facts for kids
Drob is a special and tasty dish from Romania. It's often eaten during Easter celebrations. Think of it as a savory meatloaf made with lamb. It's a very popular traditional food in Romania.
What is Drob?
Drob is a traditional Romanian food. It's usually made from parts of a lamb, like the liver, lungs, and heart. These are called "offals." The dish also includes fresh green onions, lots of herbs like dill and parsley, and eggs. Sometimes, bread soaked in milk is added too.
How is Drob Made?
First, the lamb parts are cooked until they are soft. Then, they are chopped into small pieces. These pieces are mixed with the green onions, herbs, and eggs. Everything is seasoned with salt and pepper to make it taste just right.
Next, a special thin, lacy covering from the lamb, called "caul fat," is used. This caul fat is spread out in a baking pan. The meat and herb mixture is then carefully placed inside. It's baked until it's golden brown and cooked through.
Different Kinds of Drob
Because Drob is so popular, there are many ways to make it!
- Some people use a sheet of dough instead of the caul fat to hold the mixture.
- Often, boiled eggs are placed right in the middle of the Drob loaf. This makes for a nice surprise when you slice it!
