A Look Back in Time
Duáñez has a long history. In 1528, a special count was done called the Census of Pecheros. This count listed families who paid taxes. It didn't include church members or noble families. The census showed that 10 tax-paying families lived in Duáñez. Back then, the village was called Dohañe. It was part of an old administrative area known as the Sexmo of Arciel.
Later, around the time the old system of government changed, Duáñez became its own official town. This was in the region of Castilla la Vieja. In 1842, another count showed that Duáñez had 7 households and 28 people living there. After that, Duáñez joined the municipality of Candilichera, which is how it is today.
