Dystin Johnson began her acting journey in 1993 with a role in the TV series Harry. She then joined the cast of the CBeebies children's show The Story Makers from 2002 to 2004. In this show, she played the character Rossetti Wordsworth.

Johnson is widely recognized for playing Norma Starkey in the Channel 4 comedy-drama series Shameless.
