Dziuché is a small town located in the Hoctún Municipality. It is found in the State of Yucatán, which is in the southeast part of Mexico.

This town grew up around an old hacienda. A hacienda was like a large estate or farm, often with a big house, where people lived and worked. Dziuché was very important during a time called the "henequen boom." This was between 1870 and 1920, when a plant called henequen was grown a lot. Henequen was used to make ropes and other fiber products.

During this time, the hacienda even made its own special tokens. These tokens were like money used only on the hacienda. They are very interesting to people who study coins and tokens, called numismatists. These tokens showed that the hacienda belonged to a person named Juan Gamboa.

Dziuché: A Center for Sugarcane and Honey

Later, a rich landowner named Raymundo Cámara Luján bought the hacienda. He started growing a lot of sugarcane again in the Yucatán area. Sugarcane is used to make sugar.

For example, between 1909 and 1910, the Dziuché Hacienda produced about 12,000 kilograms of sugarcane. That's a lot of sugarcane! They also made about 10,000 kilograms of honey. This shows how important the hacienda was for farming and making goods.

How Dziuché Changed Over Time

In 1937, the government of Mexico changed how land was owned. President Lázaro Cárdenas del Río led a government that wanted to help farmers. This government took over the large haciendas from the wealthy families who owned them. This process is called expropriation.

The haciendas were then turned into ejidos. An ejido is a special type of land ownership where the land belongs to the community. People in the community work the land together. This meant that the land around Dziuché was now owned by the community, not by one family.

After the government took the land from the Cámara family in 1937, the sugarcane factory was no longer used. Dziuché stopped being a big center for farming and business. Because of these changes, the town that once had many workers now has only about ten people living there.
