Diwan Bahadur E. K. Krishnan (1841–1907) was an important Indian civil servant. He worked during the time when India was ruled by the British. Early Life and First Steps
E. K. Krishnan was born in 1841. His full name was Edavalath Kakkat Krishnan. He came from a well-known family called Kakkat in Thalassery. Thalassery was part of the Madras Presidency. His father was Kunkan Vaidyar.
Krishnan began his career at a young age. In 1861, he started working as a sub-judge in the Madras Court. This was an important legal role. He also worked as an English writer in the Thalassery Civil Court. He even served as the chairman of the local council, known as the munsiple chair.
Working for the British Administration
Krishnan continued to rise in his career. He became a Deputy Collector for the Malabar region. This was a very important position. It meant he helped manage a large area for the British government.
In 1896, he retired from his service. By then, he had earned the title of Diwan of Malabar. A Diwan was a high-ranking official. They were responsible for important administrative duties. This title showed his great achievements and respect.
