Rapid Expansion of the Fire

Just a few days after it started, the fire grew incredibly fast. On October 21, it was about 40,000 acres in size. But by October 22, it had exploded to around 125,000 acres! To give you an idea, an acre is about the size of a football field. So, 125,000 acres is a huge area, larger than many cities. This rapid growth made it the fourth largest wildfire ever recorded in Colorado's history at that time.
