History of Eatons Group
The very first building on this site was a wooden hotel. It was called the White Hart Inn and was built in 1839. Later, in 1857, a man named William Eaton bought the property. He then got a license for it and renamed it Eaton's White Hart Inn.
Changes to the Hotel Building
In 1866, William Eaton made many big changes to the hotel. He likely did this because the Great North railway line was coming. The railway reached Muswellbrook station in 1869. Because of these changes, the hotel's name became Eaton's Hotel in 1867.
Around 1915, the space between the back parts of the hotel was filled in. A small roof was added to connect these areas. Another part was added to the northern side of the hotel around 1929. Records also suggest that the front porch, called a veranda, was made wider by 1930. This happened when other work was done on the shop and house.
Recent Updates to the Site
In 2007, plans were approved to make more changes and additions. This included taking down a small brick addition at the back. The inside and outside of the buildings were also repaired and updated. New motel rooms were built in a country style. All these updates were finished in 2010.
