A Brief History of Ebéjico
Before the Spanish arrived, the area of Ebéjico was home to native tribes. These included the Ebexicos and Peques, who were both part of the Nutabes tribe family.
In 1595, a Spanish leader named Don Gaspar de Rodas defeated the native people. He then gave land in Ebéjico to the Spanish winners. He also put the native people under the care of Captain Manuel López Bravo.
By 1830, the small village was known by its first name, "Community." In 1833, the governor, Juan de Dios Aranzazu, officially created the parish of Ebéjico. It was named after the strong Ebexico tribe. Governor Aranzazu also made the "Valley of Miraflores Community" into a municipal district. This new district became the official location for the town we now know as Ebéjico.
