Ebba Johanna Cecilia von Eckermann (born Ebba von Hallwyl) was an important Swedish activist. She worked hard for women's rights. Ebba was born on May 21, 1866, and passed away on October 16, 1960.

Early Life and Dreams

Ebba von Eckermann grew up in a well-known family. Her parents were Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl. She also had a sister named Ellen Roosval von Hallwyl.

Ebba went to the Wallinska skolan from 1882 to 1884. She really wanted to study architecture at a university. However, her parents had different plans for her. They wanted her to follow the usual path for young women at that time.

Instead of university, Ebba was introduced to high society. This was so she could find a husband. In 1886, she married Wilhelm von Eckermann. He was an officer and worked for the royal court.

Bringing Women Together

Ebba von Eckermann became well-known for something special. She hosted meetings at her home. These gatherings brought together women from different backgrounds. Educated women met with working-class women.

The main goal was for these women to get to know each other. They could learn from each other's experiences. Ebba was a key person for feminists and women's rights supporters. She was especially important within more traditional groups.

Leading Women's Groups

Ebba von Eckermann was very active in many organizations. She was a board member and vice chairperson of the Fredrika Bremer Association. This group worked for women's rights.

She also served on the boards of hospitals. These included Sophiahemmet and Eugeniahemmet. Ebba was also involved with the Red Cross. She supported the Sveriges flickors scoutförbund (SFS) (Swedish Girl Scouts). In 1913, she even started a school for household skills.

Ebba helped create the Stockholms Moderata Kvinnoförbund. This was the 'Moderate Women's Association of Stockholm'. She led this group from 1912 to 1922. In 1915, she also helped start the Sveriges moderata kvinnors riksförbund. This was the 'Swedish Moderate Women's Association'. She was its leader from 1915 to 1922.
