Eddie Burns (born January 16, 1916 – died June 30, 2004) was a famous Australian rugby league player and coach. He played as a prop-forward for the Canterbury-Bankstown team in the NSWRFL Premiership, which was a top rugby league competition. He also represented his state, New South Wales, and later became a coach for the Bulldogs.

Playing Rugby League: Eddie Burns's Career
Eddie Burns started his rugby league journey as a teenager. He joined the Canterbury-Bankstown club in their very first season, which was in 1935. He played for an amazing 16 seasons in the top league, from 1935 all the way to 1950.
During his long career, Eddie Burns played 212 first-grade games. He scored 196 points for his team.
Winning Championships
Eddie Burns helped the Canterbury-Bankstown team win two major championships. These wins happened in the 1938 and 1942 seasons.
Playing for New South Wales
In 1948, Eddie Burns was chosen to play for the New South Wales state team. He played in two games for them, showing he was one of the best players in the state.
A Club Record Holder
When Eddie Burns stopped playing in 1950, he held a special record. He was the Canterbury-Bankstown club's top try-scorer ever, with 60 tries. This record stood for a long time and was not broken until 1978 by another great player, Chris Anderson.
Eddie Burns was also the 16th player to ever represent the Canterbury-Bankstown club.
Eddie Burns as a Coach
After his playing days, Eddie Burns became a coach. He coached the Canterbury-Bankstown club from 1960 to 1962. He returned to coach them again in 1965.
He also coached other important teams:
- In 1963, he coached the New South Wales City Firsts team.
- In 1964, he coached the main New South Wales rugby league team.
In 1969, Eddie Burns also helped manage the Australian team that toured New Zealand. This was known as the 1969 Kangaroo tour.
Awards and Honors for Eddie Burns
Eddie Burns received many honors for his contributions to rugby league:
- In 1985, he was chosen for Canterbury's 'Greatest Team Ever'.
- In 2004, he was named in the '70 Year Canterbury-Bankstown Team of Champions'.
- In 2015, he became the very first player to be added to the Canterbury-Bankstown Hall of Fame.
