Eddie Santiago (born Eduardo Santiago Rodríguez on August 18, 1955) is a famous salsa singer from Puerto Rico. He is known for his romantic salsa songs, which made him a big star in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Some of his most popular hits include "Lluvia," "Tú me quemas," and "Me Haces Falta Tú."

Early Life and Music Beginnings

Even when he was young, Eddie Santiago loved salsa music. He started his journey by performing with different music groups. Some of these groups were Generación 2000, Orquesta La Potente, Orquesta Opus, and Orquesta Saragüey. These experiences helped him prepare for his future as a solo artist.

Becoming a Salsa Star

Eddie Santiago's solo career really took off in 1986. He formed his own band and started recording many popular songs. Hits like "Tú me quemas" (which means "You Burn Me") and "Qué Locura Enamorarme de Ti" ("What Madness To Fall in Love With You") made him famous. His most well-known song is "Lluvia" ("Rain").

His music became popular not just in Puerto Rico and Latin America, but also in Europe and the United States. He became one of the biggest salsa singers of his time. Eddie Santiago was a key artist in a style called "salsa romántica," which means "romantic salsa." This type of salsa focuses on love stories and feelings.

He later signed with big record labels like Sony Music, TH, EMI Latin, and Polygram. One of his notable albums was Enamorado, which was inspired by the music of Rafael Hernández, another famous Puerto Rican composer.

In 1999, Eddie Santiago released an album called Celebration: Epic Duets. On this album, he sang with other well-known Latin music stars. These included Víctor Manuelle, Huey Dunbar, and Elvis Crespo. This album was recognized as one of the best recordings of 1999.

Throughout his career, Eddie Santiago has received many honors. He has earned both gold and platinum records, which means his albums sold a lot of copies. He has also won other awards for his music.

Recent Years

In 2004, Eddie Santiago announced his return to music with a new CD called Después del Silencio (meaning After the Silence). The title referred to the time he had taken a break from releasing new music.

His album was even nominated for a Salsa/Merengue Album of the Year award at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Also, one of his songs, "Black is Black," was featured in the movie soundtrack for Nacho Libre.
