Edge & Christian (also known as E&C) were a very famous Canadian professional wrestling tag team. They are best known for their time in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which later became WWE. They won the WWF Tag Team Championship an amazing seven times!

At first, the WWE story was that they were brothers. But later, in 2010, this was changed. They were then said to be childhood friends instead. The team split up in 2001. They had a short reunion in 2011. Edge had to retire in 2011 because of a neck injury. This ended their time together.

Edge returned to wrestling in 2020. Christian also returned in 2021. Both were in the 2021 Royal Rumble match. Soon after, Christian left WWE to join All Elite Wrestling (AEW). He used the name Christian Cage. Edge then joined AEW in 2023, using his real name, Adam Copeland.

Besides their seven tag team titles, they also won single championships. Edge and Christian are famous for being in the first three Tables, Ladders, and Chairs matches (TLC matches). They often used steel chairs as weapons. They even invented a move called the "con-chair-to." This is when they hit a wrestler with two chairs at the same time. They are seen as one of the teams that made tag team wrestling exciting again. In 2012, WWE called them the greatest tag team ever. Their popularity helped both Edge and Christian become big stars. They both won many world championships on their own.

History of Edge & Christian

Early Days (1997–1998)

Adam Copeland and Jason Reso were friends who trained together. They formed a tag team in Canada. They used the names Sexton Hardcastle and Christian Cage. They were part of a group called "Thug LiFe" in 1997. In 1998, they started teaming up in smaller wrestling companies. They won the ICW Streetfight Tag Team Championship twice. They also won the SSW Tag Team Championship once.

Joining the World Wrestling Federation (1998–2001)

The Brood and Terri Tournament (1998–2000)

Edge first appeared in the World Wrestling Federation (WWF) in June 1998. He was a mysterious character who came from the crowd. He started a rivalry with Gangrel. Later, Christian appeared. He looked a lot like Edge. The story was that Christian was Edge's brother. Christian was with Gangrel, acting like a vampire follower.

Edge eventually joined Christian and Gangrel. They formed a group called "The Brood".

The Brood joined The Undertaker's group, the Ministry of Darkness, for a short time. But they left after Christian was punished. Gangrel then turned against Edge. Christian refused to turn on Edge. So, Edge and Christian left Gangrel. They became fan favorites, meaning the crowd cheered for them. They were known for entering the ring through the audience.

Their rivalry with The Hardy Boyz (Matt Hardy & Jeff Hardy) became very intense. Both teams wanted Terri Runnels to be their manager. They competed in a "Terri Invitational Tournament." This was a series of five matches. Edge & Christian won the first two matches. The Hardy Boyz won the next two. The final match was a ladder match at No Mercy. The Hardy Boyz won this exciting match. Both teams got a standing ovation from the fans. The next night, all four wrestlers shook hands. They showed respect for each other. They then attacked Gangrel, who had tried to cause trouble. This made them all heroes to the fans.

The story then focused on the "mutual respect" between Edge & Christian and the Hardy Boyz. Both teams wanted to win the WWF Tag Team Championship. They had many matches together. But soon, their friendship broke down. They started fighting each other again.

Funny Antics and Winning Titles (2000)

Edge and Christian WWF - King of the Ring 2000
Edge (left) & Christian often did a "five-second pose" to mock their opponents

Edge & Christian's rivalry with the Hardy Boyz grew stronger. At WrestleMania 2000, Edge & Christian won their first WWF Tag Team Championship. They beat The Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz in a Triangle ladder match. After this, Edge & Christian changed their characters. They became funny, arrogant villains. They would make fun of their opponents and the city they were in. They used funny phrases like "reek of awesomeness."

One of their most famous things was the "five-second pose." They would pose in strange ways in the ring. This was "for the benefit of those with flash photography." They often made fun of local heroes or events. This made the crowd boo them, which was their goal as villains.

At Backlash, they kept their titles. They then started a rivalry with Too Cool. They lost their titles to Too Cool in May 2000. But at the King of the Ring event, they won their second WWF Tag Team Championship. They beat Too Cool, the Hardy Boyz, and T & A.

Edge & Christian became known for their "con-chair-to" move. This was when they hit a wrestler's head with two steel chairs at the same time. At SummerSlam, they defended their titles. They faced the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz in the first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match (TLC match). This match used tables, ladders, and chairs, which were each team's special weapons. Edge & Christian won the match. After the match, they made fun of their opponents with a special "37-second pose."

Los Conquistadores (2000)

Edge & Christian lost their tag team championship to the Hardy Boyz. They had a rematch, but lost again. Because of a rule, they couldn't challenge for the titles as long as the Hardy Boyz were champions. So, they found a trick! They started wrestling under masks as Los Conquistadores.

As Los Conquistadores, they won a battle royal. This earned them a title shot. They then beat the Hardy Boyz at No Mercy to become champions again. But soon, another team started wrestling as Los Conquistadores. This new team beat Edge & Christian. They took off their masks and revealed they were the Hardy Boyz! So, the Hardy Boyz were champions once more.

Team RECK (2000–2001)

In 2000, Edge & Christian sometimes teamed up with Kurt Angle. They called themselves "Team ECK." Later, Rhyno joined them. This group was then called "Team RECK."

At Armageddon, Edge & Christian won their fourth WWF Tag Team Championship. They lost them a week later. But they quickly won them back. At the Royal Rumble, they lost the titles again. They helped the Hardy Boyz win the titles. Then, two weeks later, they beat the Hardy Boyz to win their sixth WWF Tag Team Championship. This was a record at the time! But they lost the titles later that same night. This made them the shortest-reigning champions ever.

At WrestleMania X-Seven, they won their seventh and final WWF Tag Team Championship. They beat the Dudley Boyz and the Hardy Boyz in the second-ever TLC match. Their teammate Rhyno helped them win. In April 2001, they lost the titles to The Brothers of Destruction (Undertaker & Kane).

Splitting Up and Coming Back (2001-2012)

Edge and Christian started to have problems. At King of the Ring, Edge won the tournament. Christian seemed jealous. In September 2001, Christian attacked Edge. He used a "one-man con-chair-to." This made Christian a major villain. He joined a group called The Alliance. Edge and Christian then had a rivalry over the WWF Intercontinental Championship. This caused their team to break up.

Edge and Christian reunited for a few matches over the years. Christian left WWE in 2005. He joined another company called Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). He used the name Christian Cage. He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship twice there. Edge also became a huge star in WWE. He won the first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match. He later won the WWE Championship, his first of many world titles.

Christian returned to WWE in 2009. He won the ECW Championship. Edge and Christian met on TV again. They said they were childhood friends, not brothers. This changed their old story. They had a short rivalry, but then helped each other.

At WrestleMania XXVII, Edge defeated Alberto Del Rio. Edge then announced his retirement in April 2011. This was because of his neck injuries. He had to give up his World Heavyweight Championship. Christian then won a match to get a shot at the empty title. At Extreme Rules, Christian beat Del Rio in a Ladder match. Edge helped him win. Edge and Christian celebrated together in the ring.

At SummerSlam, Christian was a villain again. Edge told him off for his actions. Edge left Christian to fight alone. In 2012, Edge was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Christian gave the speech to introduce him.

Last Reunions (2014–2021)

Edge & Christian hosted an episode of Raw in December 2014. They appeared on the Stone Cold Podcast in 2015. They also appeared together on the TV show Haven. Edge had a regular role, and Christian was a guest star.

They also hosted their own show on the WWE Network. It was called The Edge & Christian Show That Totally Reeks of Awesomeness. It started in 2016. They also had a podcast called E&C's Pod of Awesomeness.

In 2018, Edge & Christian inducted The Dudley Boyz into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Edge returned to wrestling at the 2020 Royal Rumble. He had been away for nine years due to injuries. He started a rivalry with Randy Orton. Christian got involved when Orton injured Edge. Christian tried to stand up for Edge.

At the 2021 Royal Rumble, Edge returned from another injury. Christian was a surprise entrant in the same match. They reunited again! Christian was eliminated, but Edge went on to win the Royal Rumble match. In March, Christian left WWE to join All Elite Wrestling (AEW). This separated the team once more.

Rivalry (2023–2024)

In August 2023, Edge announced his WWE contract was ending. He did not sign a new one. The next day, Edge, now called Adam Copeland, joined AEW. He confronted Christian, who was now called Christian Cage. Copeland wanted to team up again. But Cage refused and threatened him.

Copeland won his first match in AEW. He beat Luchasaurus, who was Cage's friend. Cage's group was called The Patriarchy. At Full Gear, Copeland's team beat The Patriarchy. Copeland then challenged Cage for the TNT Championship. Copeland lost the first title match.

At Worlds End, Copeland defeated Cage to win the TNT Championship! This was his first title in AEW. But his reign was very short. Killswitch, another member of The Patriarchy, had won a title shot earlier. He gave his shot to Christian Cage. Cage then immediately beat Copeland to win the title back. Copeland's reign lasted only three minutes.

After this, Copeland started "The Cope Open." This was a series of open challenges to earn another title shot. On March 20, 2024, Copeland defeated Cage again. He won the TNT Championship for a second time in an "I Quit" match. This ended their six-month rivalry.
