The Hardys, also known as the Hardy Boyz, are a famous professional wrestling tag team made up of brothers Jeff Hardy and Matt Hardy. They are known for their exciting, high-flying moves in the ring.
The brothers first started wrestling together in 1993 at smaller wrestling shows. They even created their own wrestling company called OMEGA Championship Wrestling. In 1997, they signed with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), which is now called WWE.
In 2000, a wrestler named Lita joined them, and they became known as Team Xtreme. The Hardys are the only team to have won tag team championships in WWE, WCW, TNA, ROH, Raw, and SmackDown. Many people believe they helped make tag team wrestling exciting again during the "Attitude Era" of wrestling. In 2012, WWE called them one of the greatest tag teams in its history.
After wrestling separately for a while, the brothers reunited in 2006. They have teamed up on and off since then, winning many more championships. Both Jeff and Matt have also won major championships as single wrestlers. In 2017, they held seven different tag team championships at the same time from various wrestling companies!
The Hardy Boyz became very famous for their exciting matches, especially ladder matches and Tables, Ladders and Chairs (TLC) matches. They had memorable rivalries with teams like The Dudley Boyz and Edge and Christian. Overall, they have won 13 world tag team championships across WWE, TNA, and ROH. This includes six WWE/World Tag Team Championships, one Raw Tag Team Championship, one SmackDown Tag Team Championship, one WCW Tag Team Championship, three TNA World Tag Team Championships, and one ROH World Tag Team Championship.

History of The Hardys
Early Wrestling Days (1993–1998)
The Hardy brothers started their tag team in 1993. They wrestled in different independent wrestling shows in North Carolina. They won the OMEGA Tag Team Championship and the NWA 2000 Tag Team Championship. Their first match as a team in the WWF was in May 1996.
Becoming Stars in WWE (1998–2009)
Rising to Fame (1998–1999)
When the Hardys first joined the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), they often lost matches to make other wrestlers look stronger. After signing a contract in 1998, they learned more wrestling skills from Dory Funk, Jr..
The Hardy Boyz became a popular tag team after winning a match in September 1998. Fans loved their exciting, high-flying style. They soon became serious contenders for the Tag Team Championship. With their manager Michael Hayes, they won their first WWF Tag Team Championship in July 1999. However, they lost the title less than a month later.
They later stopped working with Michael Hayes and briefly joined a group called The New Brood. They won a special ladder match against Edge and Christian to get Terri Runnels as their manager. After this, they became fan favorites again. This started a long rivalry between the Hardy Boyz and Edge and Christian. During this time, Lita also joined them, forming a popular trio.
Team Xtreme Era (2000–2002)
With Lita, Matt and Jeff formed "Team Xtreme." Their name showed off their "extreme" and daring wrestling moves. In 2000, they had many exciting matches, especially ladder and TLC matches, against Edge and Christian and The Dudley Boyz.
At WrestleMania 2000, they competed in a three-way ladder match for the Tag Team Championship. Edge and Christian won that match. The Hardys continued to face these teams in many championship matches.
At SummerSlam, the Hardy Boyz were in the very first TLC match for the Tag Team Championship, which Edge and Christian won. At Unforgiven, the Hardys won the title for the second time in a steel cage match. They lost and then won the title back quickly, even pretending to be another team called Los Conquistadores to win.
The Hardys also had rivalries with other teams like Right to Censor and The Radicalz. In March 2001, the Hardy Boyz won their fourth WWF Tag Team Championship. They lost it two weeks later. At WrestleMania X-Seven, they were in another famous TLC match, but Edge and Christian won again.
In October 2001, the Hardy Boyz won the WCW Tag Team Championship. They lost it two weeks later. In November, they won the WWF Tag Team Championship again. At Survivor Series, they lost the title in a steel cage match, which led to a brief storyline where they wrestled each other. They reunited in January 2002.
The Hardys then had a rivalry with Brock Lesnar and his manager Paul Heyman. At Judgment Day, the Hardy Boyz lost to Lesnar and Heyman.
Separating and Leaving WWE (2002–2005)
After this, Jeff started a storyline with The Undertaker, while Matt wrestled less often. In a storyline, Matt attacked Jeff because he was jealous of Jeff's opportunities. Matt then moved to the SmackDown brand. He called himself "Matt Hardy Version 1" and won the Cruiserweight Championship in February 2003. Jeff left WWE in April 2003.
Jeff later joined Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) in 2004. Matt left WWE in April 2005 but was rehired a few months later. He had a rivalry with Edge before moving back to the SmackDown brand.
The Hardys Reunite (2006–2007)
Jeff returned to WWE in August 2006. In November 2006, Matt and Jeff teamed up again for the first time in over four years at Survivor Series. They were part of Team DX and won their match.
In November 2006, The Hardys had a chance to win the World Tag Team Championship but did not succeed. They started a rivalry with MNM (Johnny Nitro and Joey Mercury). The Hardys defeated MNM at a special event. Their rivalry continued, and The Hardys defeated MNM again at the Royal Rumble.
On April 2, 2007, the Hardys won the World Tag Team Championship for the sixth time in their careers. They defended their titles successfully against teams like Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch and The World's Greatest Tag Team. However, they lost their championship to Cade and Murdoch the next night on Raw. The Hardys tried to win the titles back but were unsuccessful.
The Hardys reunited again in 2008 for a few matches, winning some and losing others.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2010–2017)
Immortal Group (2010–2011)
Jeff returned to TNA in January 2010. He later won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship with help from Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, who formed a group called Immortal. In January 2011, Matt made his TNA debut as a surprise member of Immortal. The Hardy brothers reunited as villains for the first time since 1999.
TNA World Tag Team Champions (2014–2015)
Matt returned to TNA in mid-2014. The Hardys challenged for the TNA World Tag Team Championship but did not win. They had a series of exciting matches against The Wolves and Team 3D (the former Dudley Boyz) for the tag team titles.
In February 2015, The Hardys tried to win the TNA World Tag Team Championship again but were unsuccessful. After the champions had to give up the titles due to an injury, The Hardys won a special match to become the new TNA World Tag Team Champions. However, they later had to give up the titles themselves because Jeff suffered a leg injury.
The Broken Hardyz (2016–2017)
In 2016, Matt Hardy changed his wrestling character to "Broken Matt," and Jeff Hardy became "Brother Nero." They had a unique and popular storyline where they tried to win the Impact Wrestling World Tag Team Championship. They defeated Decay at Bound for Glory to become TNA World Tag Team Champions for the second time.
The Hardys left TNA in February 2017 without losing their tag team championships.
Expedition of Gold (2014–2017)
Starting in 2014, the brothers also wrestled together at various independent wrestling shows. In 2017, while still TNA Tag Team Champions, the Hardys went on a special tour called the "Expedition of Gold." Their goal was to win other tag team titles around the world and prove they were the "greatest tag team in all of space and time."
During this tour, Matt and Jeff won tag team titles in Mexico, West Virginia, Maryland, their own OMEGA company, and Chile. Parts of these matches were even shown on Impact Wrestling.
On March 4, 2017, The Hardys made their debut in Ring of Honor (ROH) and defeated The Young Bucks to win the ROH World Tag Team Championship. This meant they held both the TNA and ROH World Tag Team Championships at the same time! They lost the ROH titles back to The Young Bucks in April 2017.
Return to WWE (2017, 2019)
On April 2, 2017, The Hardy Boyz made a surprise return to WWE at WrestleMania 33. They were added to a ladder match for the Raw Tag Team Championship and won the titles! The night after WrestleMania, Matt said that the Hardy Boyz had completed their "Expedition of Gold" by winning the Raw Tag Team Championship. They defended their titles successfully but eventually lost them.
In September 2017, Jeff suffered an injury, so Matt wrestled alone for a while. Two years later, in February 2019, the Hardy Boyz reunited. In April 2019, they defeated The Usos to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. This made them the first team to win all three of WWE's main tag team championships (World, Raw, and SmackDown). However, they later had to give up the SmackDown titles because Jeff suffered another leg injury. Matt left WWE in March 2020, and Jeff left in December 2021.
All Elite Wrestling (2022–2024)
Matt announced that he and Jeff would reunite for a "Final Run" in wrestling. Jeff debuted for AEW on March 9, 2022, bringing the brothers back together after more than two years. On March 16, 2022, "The Hardys" had their first AEW match, which they won.
In April 2022, the brothers won the IWC Tag Team Championship, their first tag team titles in three years. In May 2022, Jeff Hardy suffered an injury during a match. Jeff returned to AEW in April 2023 to help his brother. In April 2024, Matt's contract with AEW ended, and he decided not to renew it, which meant the team separated. Jeff also left AEW two months later.
Return to TNA (2024–present)
Matt made a surprise return to TNA on April 20, 2024, bringing back his "Broken" character. He challenged for the TNA World Championship but did not win. After the match, Jeff made a surprise return to TNA to help Matt. On October 26, 2024, the Hardys won their third TNA World Tag Team Championship by defeating two other teams in a Full Metal Mayhem match.

The Hardys have appeared in other media besides wrestling shows. They were on an episode of That '70s Show in 1999.
