Edgemont, also known as The Jenks Homestead, is a historic house in Middletown Township, Pennsylvania. It's a special old home that tells a story about the past.

Discovering Edgemont: A Historic Home

Edgemont was built a long time ago, between 1820 and 1823. It's a two-and-a-half-story house made of stone. The outside is covered in a material called stucco, which is a type of plaster. The house has five sections, or "bays," and is built in the Federal style. This style was popular in the United States after the American Revolution.

Changes Over Time

Around 1830, a kitchen area was added to the back of the house. This part was changed again in the 1870s. Imagine how many different families and stories this house has seen over the years! In the 1970s, Edgemont was carefully fixed up and restored to its original beauty.

Why Edgemont is Special

Because of its history and unique style, Edgemont was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. This is a special list of places in the United States that are important to our country's history and culture. Being on this list helps protect these places for future generations to enjoy and learn from.
