Edgoten first began when a railroad line was built and reached this spot. The community's unique name, "Edgoten," is actually a mix of words. It comes from "edge of Tennessee," because of its location near the border of the state of Tennessee.
A post office was opened in Edgoten in the year 1906. This post office helped people send and receive mail for many years. However, it eventually closed down in 1922.
