The Edinburgh Theological College was a special school that trained people to become leaders, or clergy, in the Scottish Episcopal Church. This church is a Christian church in Scotland, similar to the Anglican Church in other parts of the world. The college first opened its doors in 1810.

In 1891, the college moved to a new home called Coates Hall in Edinburgh. This new place was bigger and had rooms for students to live in, plus a library full of books. When students finished their studies, they would sometimes wear a special academic hood. This was a piece of clothing worn over their shoulders, and for this college, it was black with a thistle green lining. The college taught students for many years until it closed in 1994. Today, the buildings are used by St Mary's Music School.

After the Edinburgh Theological College closed, its work continued in new ways. In 1995, a new group called the Theological Institute of the Scottish Episcopal Church (TISEC) took over. Later, in 2015, this group became the Scottish Episcopal Institute (SEI), which still trains church leaders today.
