Edison Bariano Lobão (born December 5, 1936) is a Brazilian politician. He has held many important roles in Brazil's government. He served as the governor of Maranhão state. He was also a national minister in charge of mines and energy. For many years, he served as a Senator. In 2001, he even served as the acting President of the Senate for a short time.

Edison Lobão began his political journey as a Federal Deputy. He represented the state of Maranhão in the national government. He held this position from February 1, 1979, to February 1, 1987. After that, he became a Senator. His first term as Senator was from March 15, 1987, to March 15, 1991.

Serving as Governor

From March 15, 1991, to April 2, 1994, Edison Lobão served as the Governor of Maranhão. As governor, he was the main leader of the state. He worked on important issues for the people of Maranhão. His vice-governor during this time was José de Ribamar Fiquene.

National Roles in Government

Edison Lobão returned to the Senate on February 1, 1995. He continued to serve as a Senator until February 1, 2019. This was a long period of public service.
