The President of the Federal Senate is the leader of the Federal Senate in Brazil. Think of them as the main person in charge of making sure the Senate runs smoothly. They lead discussions and help decide what topics the Senate will work on.
This important role also places them third in line to become the President of Brazil. This means if the President and Vice President cannot do their jobs, the President of the Federal Senate would step in. They also lead special meetings where both parts of Brazil's government (the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies) come together.
The current President of the Federal Senate is Davi Alcolumbre. He is from the Brazil Union party and started his term on February 1, 2025.

History of the Senate Presidency
The role of the President of the Federal Senate has been around for a long time. It was first created on March 25, 1824.
Presidents During the Empire (1826–1889)
During the time when Brazil was an Empire, the Senate had its own presidents. The first person to hold this position was José Egídio Álvares de Almeida, who started on April 24, 1826. Many important figures served in this role during the Empire.
Presidents in the Republic (1889–Present)
When Brazil became a Republic in 1889, the role continued. For some periods, like from 1889 to 1930 and from 1946 to 1961, the Vice President of Brazil also served as the President of the Senate. This meant one person held both jobs.
Since then, many different people have served as President of the Federal Senate. They come from various states across Brazil and different political parties. Each president serves a term, usually for two years, and they cannot be immediately re-elected.
