Edith Kellogg Dunton (born December 28, 1875 – died December 31, 1944) was an American writer. She became famous for her popular series of books for young people, called the "Betty Wales" series. She wrote these books using the pen name Margaret Warde.

Who Was Edith Kellogg Dunton?
Edith Kellogg Dunton was born in Rutland, Vermont. Her father was Walter C. Dunton. She went to Smith College and graduated in 1897.
Her Popular "Betty Wales" Books
The first "Betty Wales" book came out in 1904. It was published by the Penn Publishing Company. For a while, no one knew that Edith Dunton was the author. She also wrote as a critic for a magazine called The Dial in Chicago.
The "Betty Wales" series was very popular. It told the story of a character named Betty Wales. The books followed her journey from her first year at a made-up college called Harding College, all the way through graduation and beyond.
Because the books were so popular, a special line of "Betty Wales Dresses" was created in 1915. If you bought one of these dresses, you would get a free book from the series!
Other Books and Her Legacy
After the "Betty Wales" series, Edith Dunton started another series called "Nancy Lee." The last "Betty Wales" book was added in 1917.
Edith Dunton passed away in late 1944. She was buried at the Evergreen Cemetery in Rutland, Vermont. Her books continue to be a part of early 20th-century children's literature.
