Edmund Cooper (born April 30, 1926 – died March 11, 1982) was an English writer. He wrote many different kinds of books. These included speculative fiction (like science fiction), romance stories, and even a children's book. He also wrote technical essays and detective stories. He used his own name and other names for his books.

About Edmund Cooper

Edmund Cooper was born in Marple, a town near Stockport, England. He finished school when he was 15 years old.

In 1946, he got married. He worked in different jobs, including as a laborer and for the government. In 1944, he joined the Merchant Navy during World War II.

After the war, he trained to be a teacher. Then, he started writing. First, he wrote poems and short stories. Later, he began writing novels.

His First Novels

His first novel published under his own name was called Deadly Image. It came out in the United States in 1958. In the UK, it was published later that year with a different title, The Uncertain Midnight. This book was even made into a TV show in Switzerland in 1969.

Stories on Screen

One of his short stories was called The Brain Child. It was written in 1956. This story was made into a movie called The Invisible Boy in 1957. A famous robot named Robby the Robot, who was also in the movie Forbidden Planet, appeared in The Invisible Boy.

Science Fiction Reviewer

From 1967 until he passed away in 1982, Edmund Cooper reviewed science fiction books. He wrote these reviews for a newspaper called Sunday Times.
