Edward Butler, 2nd Viscount Galmoye, was an important figure in Irish history during the 1600s. He was born around 1627 and passed away sometime after October 24, 1667. Edward was the son of Piers Butler of Duiske and Margaret Netterville. His grandfather was Edward Butler, who was the 1st Viscount Galmoye.
Edward Butler became the Viscount Galmoye in 1653. This happened after his grandfather died. His own father had passed away earlier, in 1650. The title of Viscount Galmoye was connected to County Kilkenny in Ireland. Edward also had a younger brother named Major Edmond Butler of Killoshulan.
Family Life and Children
Edward Butler married Eleanor White. She was the daughter of Sir Nicholas White of Leixlip. Edward and Eleanor had two sons together:
- Piers Butler, who later became the 3rd Viscount Galmoye.
- Richard Butler of Galmoye. Richard's son, James Butler, became an officer in the famous Irish Brigade in France.
