Edward Onslow facts for kids
Edward Onslow (born April 9, 1758 – died October 18, 1829) was a British noble. He was the younger son of George Onslow, who was the first Earl of Onslow. In 1781, Edward Onslow left his role in Parliament and moved to France due to personal reasons.
Edward Onslow's Life and Career
Edward Onslow received his education at Christ Church, Oxford, starting his studies in 1774. He briefly served as a Member of Parliament for Aldborough in 1780. In the same year, he was also chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a special group for important scientists and thinkers.
Life in France
On March 7, 1783, Edward Onslow married Marie Rosalie de Bourdeilles de Brantôme. Marie brought a good amount of money to their marriage. This allowed Edward to live comfortably as a country gentleman in France for the rest of his life.
Edward and Marie had several children. One of their sons was George Onslow, who became a well-known classical composer. Another one of their descendants was Édouard Onslow, a French painter who lived from 1830 to 1904.
